The History

Mucky Puddle was set up in Spring/ Summer 2004 by friends Mhairi Mackenzie and Craig Miller. Both were driven by a desire to produce website and graphics services to those companies who could least afford them, but would benefit most from the effects they would have on their small businesses. Funding was received from PSYBT, Business Gateway and Women into Enterprise which helped them set up a Virtual Office, and provided the much needed computer equipment and software required to do the job.

Having worked in Strathclyde Student's Association they used their wide array of contacts to create an established client base and build a strong portfolio of work. In January 2005 Mucky Puddle were shortlisted for the regional finals of the Shell Livewire Entrepreneur of the year awards, they also attended the PSYBT start-up fayre at the Glasgow SECC and  helped encourage more 18- 30 year olds that being self-employed wasn't as bad as it sounded!(as long as you keep an eye on your accounts!)

Working remotely from home was great until the filing started spilling into Mhairi's kitchen and Craig's living room respectively! Following a break- in when one of the dear Mac laptops was half-inched, it was felt the time was ripe to get into a proper 'grown-ups' office and to start to expand the business.

Around about the same time, the new Digital Media Centre in Govan was nearing completion and Mucky Puddle managed to secure one of the much sought after office spaces. Day one at MPHQ was filled with  trips to Ikea and the subsequent male versus female battle to  build furniture without looking at the instructions! After a couple of rebuilds they got there in the end and before long had a third staff member to help with admin and office duties.

Since then the team has grown to a strength of five and it looks like some more additions will be arriving in the very near future!
